June 27: The Art of Healing

Join us for our annual daylong symposium exploring the many ways art serves as a modality for healing the body and soul.

A Note From Rabbi Daniel Nevins

The essence of pastoral care is assisting people during challenging transitions in their lives. Now the Center for Pastoral Education faces a transition of its own, as we say farewell to our founder, Rabbi Mychal Springer, and welcome our new director, Rabbi Naomi Kalish.

Steven Philp, The Rabbinical School

All his life, Steven Philp felt called to be a member of the clergy. But as a child, the rabbinate wasn’t quite what he envisioned: Steven grew up Roman Catholic, and comes from a long line of Methodist ministers.

Annette Kasle, DHL, Kekst Graduate School

Annette Kasle first took an informal adult education class with Associate Provost and Assistant Professor of Bible and Interpretation Stephen Garfinkel over 20 years ago. It left her hungry for more, and after retiring from a fulfilling career in law and health care policy, she came to JTS, earning first an MA and now a Doctorate in Hebrew Literature from the Kekst Graduate School.

Orlea Miller, MA, The William Davidson School

Growing up in the Jewish community of San Antonio, Texas, Orlea Miller loved teaching friends about Jewish traditions and holidays—a passion she decided to turn into a career while working at Gann Academy, a Jewish high school near Boston.

Benjamin de Toledo, BA, List College

The road to graduation isn’t always straightforward. But sometimes it’s the unexpected detours that give an education meaning. Just ask Benjamin de Toledo.
