The Jewish Community of Ukraine and the Current Crisis

Speakers: 

Dr. David Fishman, professor of Jewish History at JTS, is an expert on Ukrainian Jewry and director JTS’s Project Judaica in Ukraine.  

Alisa Tzipi Zilbershtein, senior JTS rabbinical student, was born in Russia and now calls Kyiv, Ukraine, her home. She is dedicated to serving the Jews of the Former Soviet Union and to the revival of Judaism in Eastern Europe, and plans to return to Ukraine after her ordination in May 2022. Our speakers reflected on the history and present circumstances of Ukraine’s Jewish community in light of the current crisis.
