List College Mentorship Program

Posted on

This past fall, List College launched a mentorship program, recognizing both the needs of current students and the resources available in the alumni population. List College is a small school and its small size is a strength. A hallmark of List College is our close-knit community, which continues beyond graduation through the network of alumni.

The breadth of the professional fields that alumni are involved in has made it easy to make tailored matches. Almost every student who expressed interest was paired with mentors in this pilot program. Mike Schwartz (JP ‘09, environmental, social, and governance reporting manager at Republic Services), Mira Kogen Resnick (JP ‘05, deputy assistant secretary for Regional Security in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs), Hilary Yohlin Waller (JP ’04, director of Education and Programming at the Postpartum Stress Center), Dr. Orly Klein (DD ’05, pediatrician and assistant clinical professor, Stanford Children’s Health), Dr. Dina Robins Fainman (JP ’02, OB-GYN, Women’s Integrative Health) were among those who gave their time to sophomores and juniors who wanted to learn more about their field from those with professional experience and knowledge of the Joint Program and Double Degree Program through List College.

Mentors and mentees were given material to guide structured conversations, with topics ranging from navigating secular workspaces and learning how to network to creating résumés. After this year’s successful launch, the mentorship program is poised to make important connections between alumni and current students, and provide List College students with career development opportunities of quality on par with larger institutions.

”I have learned so much about professional life, and the mentorship program provided the boost I needed to understand and be comfortable networking with others in my field in the future.”
