We will engage in a close reading of Exodus 12 which recounts the Passover ritual, in conversation with other biblical texts, and argue for its significance not only as a pivotal moment within Israel’s national narrative, but also as a transformative moment which defines Israel as a people.

Dr. Amy Kalmanofsky is associate professor of Bible and Ancient Semitic Languages at JTS, teaching courses on biblical literature, religion, and feminist interpretation of the Bible. She is the author of two books and contributed three articles to The Women’s Torah Commentary. Dr. Kalmanofsky is committed to feminist interpretation of the Bible, which she believes enables it to remain relevant, opening up the text to new meaning.
