Responding to the Refugee Crisis
With tens of millions displaced by conflict in the Middle East, Africa, and beyond, the world is facing the most serious refugee crisis since World War II. Join us for a discussion of what the international community can and should do about it, led by President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee and former UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband and moderated by Rebecca Bardach, who has worked with the UNHCR and the government of Israel on refugee status, policies, and procedures and with the Joint Distribution Committee to establish its Center for International Migration and Integration.

About the Speakers
David Miliband is the president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee. He oversees the agency’s relief and development operations in over 30 countries, its refugee resettlement and assistance programs throughout the U.S., and the IRC’s advocacy efforts in Washington and other capitals on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable poeple. Miliband had a distinguished political career in the United Kingdom for over 15 years. From 2007 to 2010 he served as foreign secretary.
Rebecca Bardach is director of Resource Development and Strategy at Hand in Hand: Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Israel. She has 17 years of experience working in issues related to international migration, development, and conflict resolution. Bardach directed refugee assistance programs for Bosnian refugees (1994-1998). She also worked with the UNHCR and the government of Israel on refugee status, policies, and procedures, and with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) to establish its Center for International Migration and Integration (CIMI).
