Why I Support Israel

Posted on Nov 24, 2021

An Israeli native, Tova has resided in the U.S. since her marriage to Mark Cohen, and she is a member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue and Sisterhood in Atlanta, GA.

You would say, “Of course she does, she is a native Israeli. She is proud to have been born in the land of the Jewish people.  She feels part of the land, its people, and its unique blend of cultures.”  It’s all true, but it’s not the only reason I support Israel.

I support Israel as a Jew who lives most of her life outside the land of Israel, but I am connected to the land from its past through its present and into its future. I am proud of its powerful and high-achieving society.  I watch with awe how Israel continues to absorb immigrants from countries around the globe.  I admire the freedom that people of other religions have, to practice their cultures and beliefs.  It makes me happy to know that Jewish people are creating their own future in the land of Israel.

אם אין אני לי מי לי

If we are not for ourselves, who will be for us, remembering that 34 countries closed their doors to Jews in 1938.  It is our obligation to take care of what is ours.
