Dean Perten serves as an academic advisor for both Kekst Graduate School and List College students. She helps undergraduate and graduate students pursue their academic goals and discover the rich array of opportunities at JTS. Dean Perten also facilitates List 101, List College’s orientation for all incoming students, directs leadership programming, and is a liaison to the Offices of Admissions, Student Life, and Residence Life. In addition to serving as Dean, she is involved with the development of precollege programming for high school students interested in joining the List College community.

An alumna of List College, Dean Perten is also a graduate of the Master’s Program in Decorative Arts at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum/Parsons School of Design, and holds a PhD in decorative arts and design from the Bard Graduate Center. Her research has focused on the design discourse surrounding Jewish ritual art as a material expression of religious identity in mid-20th-century America.

Prior to JTS, Dean Perten researched and cataloged objects and ephemera in a variety of museum settings including the Israel Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Jewish Museum of New York, and Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts. She previously assisted in the functions of the archival collections of The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary.
