July 12, 2023
NEW YORK, NY – The Board of Trustees of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) has elected Barry Lovell to join as its newest member.
“I have worked with Barry for the past 9 years in his role as chair of the Religious Leadership Advisory Board” said Chancellor Shuly Rubin Schwartz. “I have seen first-hand his unwavering support and dedication to JTS, working with the Rabbinical and H. L. Miller Cantorial School and as the chair of the first advisory board study mission to Jerusalem. His wisdom, kindness, and good judgment enriches every initiative with which he has been involved. I look forward to watching him expand his engagement and become a critical voice in decisions impacting the entire institution.”
Alan Levine, chair of the board, said “The Lovell family has a long and celebrated history with JTS. Mr. Lovell’s father, Stephen Lovell, served on the board for 27 years. Stephen and his wife Dedee were the Louis Marshall dinner honorees in 2019 and Barry’s wife, Dr. Ellen Reinheimer, served as the first chair of the Center for Pastoral Care advisory board. As Stephen steps down from the board and Barry takes his place, JTS is so fortunate to welcome the next generation of Lovell leadership to JTS.”
Barry Lovell is the President of Lovell Safety Management Co, LLC, a manager of workers’ compensation insurance programs for small businesses. He is an officer of the Safety Group Manager’s Association, and on the board of the American Society of Workers’ Compensation Professionals. Mr. Lovell is also At-Large Vice President of the Board of The Leffell School in Westchester and on the boards of the Westchester region of the American Jewish Committee and UJA-Federation of New York.
Aaron Priest, of The Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency, has also stepped down from the board after 20 years of devoted and generous service.
