JTS Awarded $10,000 Grant from the Adamah Climate Action Fund
January 6, 2026: JTS has been awarded a grant of $10,000 for an LED lighting upgrade in 2026, matching JTS’s own financial commitment. By converting JTS’s building light fixtures to LED, we are projected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 69 tons and save $50,000 per year. This is a critical next step in the significant energy efficiency investments that JTS has already made in its infrastructure, such as heating systems and window replacements.
JTS is a proud member of Adamah’s Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition, which is a network of Jewish community organizations who recognize the existential threat and moral urgency of the climate crisis and commit to take action.
Rabbi Stephanie Ruskay, associate dean of The Rabbinical School and executive director of the JTS Hendel Center for Ethics and Justice, partnered with the Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition and shared the following statement about the grant: “I am thrilled that JTS will not only reduce our institutional emissions through this lighting upgrade, but is also collaborating with a network of Jewish community organizations that recognize both the existential threat and the moral urgency of the climate crisis and are committed to meaningful action. This grant represents an extremely positive step in the right direction.”
All Coalition members, including JTS, have committed to developing organizational climate action plans that will focus on reducing institutional emissions and mobilizing our broader networks to engage in climate action. JTS’s Climate Action Plan will be released by next Tu B’Shvat and we look forward to sharing it with the community.
