She Left a Footprint on Our Hearts

Posted on Feb 22, 2024

Unfortunately, as time passes, we lose special Women’s League sisters, but we always remember them in our hearts—as we do Cheryl Patt (z”l). Cory Schneider, a close friend of Cheryl’s, shared the following quote by Flavia Weedn: “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.” Cory added, “Cheryl left footprints of love and leadership, kindness and caring, on the hearts of all who knew her.”

Born on March 15, 1954, Cheryl was raised in Brooklyn, New York, by her mother, Gloria. While attending nursing school, Cheryl met Mitchell Patt on a park bench in Manhattan, and they became partners in life and love for over 50 years. Along the way, Cheryl gave birth to their three daughters.

Her tireless contributions to her communities are too numerous to describe. She served on her town planning board, was president of her synagogue, and served Women’s League in many ways. She embodied tzedakah, mitzvot, kindness, and love.

Over the decades, Cheryl became a force in the New York State Branch, the International Northeast Region, and Torah Fund, and she held several positions as a Women’s League officer. She served on the Women’s League Executive Committee as recording secretary, treasurer, finance chair, and investments chair. Her wisdom and measured thoughts kept Women’s League on the right path. Her love of Torah Fund led to a seat on the Torah Fund Cabinet for many years; she always replied “yes” when she was asked to participate and contribute. She was one of the first members of the Torah Fund Legacy Society, and her significant contribution—to be received much too soon—will greatly benefit our campaign.

Cheryl spent her final days with her daughters before passing in her sleep next to Mitchell on August 7, 2023. She was laid to rest on August 9, 2023. We join Mitchell, their daughters Rebecca, Eileen, and Linda, sons-in-law, and grandchildren in missing Cheryl and carrying her memory near our hearts. May Cheryl’s memory be for a blessing.
