Enjoy highlights from the spectacular repertoire of our sacred music tradition, including a monumental performance of Louis Lewandowski’s beloved Psalm 150. Featuring the joint cantorial choir of Hebrew Union College and JTS directed by Professor Joyce Rosenzweig and Cantor Natasha Hirschhorn, the evening will conclude with a full performance of The Song of Jonah, a cantata for soloist, choir, and orchestra, conducted. This award-winning original piece by HUC alum Cantor Justin Callis tells the story of the biblical Book of Jonah in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish.
Directed by Maestro Scott Stein, this evening of song also features the Brooklyn Jewish Community Chorus, directed by Scott Stein; Shirei Chesed Community Chorus at Ansche Chesed, directed by Cantor Natasha Hirschhorn; Koleinu: the adult choir of Congregation Kol Ami, directed by Cantor Justin Callis; Elliot Roman, pianist; and a full orchestra. A reception will follow the performance.
With gratitude to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for their grant to partially fund the performance.
