Creating New Spaces: An Important Project

Posted on Nov 21, 2023

The Creating New Spaces project was initiated to provide both a nurturing physical and spiritual space for our students and the next generation of Jewish leaders through two significant initiatives. The Women’s League Study Space, which has the nickname of “little WLSS,” is located in the new undergraduate residence hall at JTS, part of the state-of-the-art campus renovation that opened last year. This environmentally friendly area hosts new technology, provides access for people with disabilities, and offers well-equipped kitchen facilities and areas for students to study and socialize—all critical components for their development.

Across the country, at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, and during the same time that JTS was under construction, Rabbi Cheryl Peretz was developing a new program of study, the Women’s League Institute on Gender Bias and Harassment. This program provides a safe space for discussion to help students identify these gender bias and harassment and build skills to deal with these challenges, whether in the workplace, synagogue, school, summer camp or wherever their career path takes them.

Our goal is to raise $200,000—and we are almost there! Each institute of higher education is to receive half this amount. We have less than $48,000 left to raise. Any donation will be greatly appreciated so that we can reach our goal during the 2023–2024 Torah Fund campaign.

Our US donors may give to Spaces here.

Our Canadian supporters may write a check to Jewish Theological Society and indicate it is for the Torah Fund Creating New Spaces campaign. Mail to:
