“Law as Literature: Understanding the Psychological, Theological, and Moral Implications of Leviticus 19,” with Dr. Walter Herzberg, Assistant Professor of Bible and Professional and Pastoral Skills
Leviticus 19 includes several laws that have been used by many universally to provide meaningful life lessons such as “Don’t Put a Stumbling Block before the Blind”; “Rise before an Elder”; and “Fear your Mother and your Father.” Through a close reading of these selected laws, we will begin to uncover some of the ways in which we can integrate a modern literary approach with the study of traditional Jewish commentaries.
The JTS lecture will be preceded by a class with a local clergy member.
Cost
$36 per person for the six weeks of courses and lectures.
