A Brief History of Heffy the Red Heifer

A brief history of Heffy the red heifer, List College’s unofficial mascot, as told by Heffy historian, Micah Cowan.

The idea for a List College mascot was proposed by Aaron Morrill (LC ’21, MA/MPH ’23) in December 2018, who then spearheaded the effort to buy a mascot through the then very active Albert A. Facebook group. The school spirit was contagious, with a parody of the Columbia University fight song written by Jonathan Silverman. Students raised the money overnight for a mascot costume, and Heffy started making appearances in spring 2019.

Since then, Heffy the heifer has taken over the imaginations and spirit of List College and has been present for List College formals as well as a guest at some alumni weddings. Heffy also greeted the incoming class of 2029, who posed with their new mascot!
