Awareness of Death
Thursday, May 2, 2019, 8:30–11:00 A.M.

Diane Shader Smith will discuss the recently published diaries of her daughter, Mallory Smith—a remarkable young woman who was determined to lead a meaningful and happy life despite her struggle with cystic fibrosis. Though Mallory tragically passed away at the age of 25, her legacy of courage and insistence on embracing life to the fullest live on through her words.
Rachel Ettun-Fox, a family therapist specializing in work with families coping with chronic illness, loss, and bereavement and the founder of Haverut (Friendship and Connection in Hebrew) will engage the group on Jewish understandings of mindfulness and on living fully. Rachel founded Haverut in memory of her daughter Ruth, who died of cystic fibrosis at the age of 11 1/2.
