CHAI Adult Education Institute
This multi-synagogue Adult Education Institute, held at the Dix Hills Jewish Center, brings in-depth Jewish learning to the Long Island community in an accessible and engaging way for participants with a wide range of Jewish knowledge. As part of a five week course and lecture program on Monday evenings, participants will have the choice to study with one clergy member from one of the sponsoring congregations. Following each class and a short break for minyan and coffee, the multiple courses will join together to hear a weekly lecture from a visiting guest scholar, two of which are members of our own JTS faculty.
- May 2, Opening Lecture: “Judaism on Our Responsibility for the World,” with Dr. David Kraemer, Joseph J. and Dora Abbell Librarian and Professor of Talmud and Rabbinic, JTS
- June 6, Closing Lecture: “How the Talmud Became the Talmud,” with Rabbi Noah Bickart, PhD, Assistant Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics, JTS
Three additional scholars from other institutions will speak on the intervening dates.
