The Days of Awe are a time for reflection, not only on the past year, but on the passage of time. We are confronted with the memories of those we have lost and the legacies they leave their families and communities. Dr. Edna Friedberg, a Holocaust historian and expert on Jewish services for the elderly, explores the meaning of our traditions in transition. How does each new year shift our understanding of the past, and how do we transmit Jewish historical perspective to young people today?
Dr. Edna Friedberg is a JTS fellow and historian at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where she has served since 1999. A graduate of the University of Illinois, she received her PhD in Modern Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary, where she wrote her dissertation on the origins of American Jewish services for the elderly.
