Financial Aid and Scholarships

The only thing more challenging than choosing the ideal college is paying for it. Fortunately, List College is committed to helping each student realize his or her educational dreams. No one should hesitate to apply for admission because of financial concerns, and all applicants should apply for financial aid. Financial-aid applications are due March 1. In addition to need-based aid, List College considers each admitted student for a variety of merit awards; no additional application is necessary. Regular and early-decision candidates are evaluated for each of the following awards:

The Fellows Program
The Fellows Program is offered to five to six incoming students each year. Fellows participate in an enriched curriculum taking small seminars conducted by distinguished JTS scholars. Outside the classroom, fellows attend dinners and lectures sponsored by the program. Fellows have taken private tours of The Jewish Museum, seen Tony-nominated Broadway shows, and dined at kosher steakhouses. The Fellows Scholarship is approximately $13,000.

The Dean's Award
Students with superior high-school achievements are rewarded with an annual award of approximately $6,000.

Achievement Award
Students with superior high-school achievements are rewarded with an annual award of $2,000.

Hodas Service Award
An endowment fund from the estate of alumnus Nathan Hodas provides a $4,500 grant to an entering student who has distinguished himself or herself through community service.

Ramah Leadership Award
A grant of $1,000 is given to two entering students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and extraordinary commitment to the ideals of Camp Ramah.

United Synagogue Youth Leadership Award
A $1,000 grant is given to an incoming student who has demonstrated a commitment to United Synagogue Youth. A second $1,000 grant is available for an exemplary USY member who defers admission to participate in Nativ.

Metsch Award
Alumni Ben and Lisa Metsch sponsor two $1,000 awards for incoming students who have been active in the Jewish community but whose Jewish education has been primarily informal.

YAD Award
The Young Alumni Division of List College provides a $500 award to an incoming student who displays remarkable potential.

Young Writers Award
A $500 scholarship is given to an incoming student who demonstrates writing excellence in his or her admissions essay.

Legacy Award
A $500 scholarship is given to an incoming student whose parent(s), sibling(s), or relative(s) have attended List College or The Jewish Theological Seminary.

Family Fund
A $500 scholarship is given to incoming students who are the first members of their immediate families to attend college.

Scholarships and Awards for Continuing Students

Several scholarships are available by application for continuing students:

Undergraduate Awards in Jewish Education
List College sponsors three awards for continuing students who intend to pursue careers in the field of Jewish education:

Sylvia and Harry Skolnick Award of $5,500: Awarded annually to two students. Recipients are expected to work in a Jewish educational setting one year for each year they receive this fellowship.
Ganya Becker Spinrad Memorial Award of $1,000.
Alumni Association Education Scholarship in Honor of Sylvia Ettenberg: Stipend of $7,000 for students intending to pursue an MA at the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education of The Jewish Theological Seminary. Recipients are expected to work in a Jewish educational setting one year for each year they receive this fellowship.

Students apply for these awards according to the schedule published by the Dean's Office each spring.

Summer Internship Scholarship Fund
The family of Elie Schwartz, z"l, has established a scholarship fund at List College to honor his memory.

The fund will be used for students interested in careers in business, providing summer stipends that will enable List College students to take unpaid internships to explore aspects of the business world.

In establishing this fund, Elie's family hopes to meet a real need at the college while perpetuating Elie's love for both Jewish life and business.

Students involved in unpaid internships are eligible for this scholarship grant, which is awarded on a competitive basis. Award amounts vary, depending on the duration of the internship, merit of the internship, and available funding. Students apply for this award according to the schedule published by the Dean's Office each spring.
