MaToK, the Bible Curriculum for Solomon Schechter Day Schools

A Bible curriculum for grades three through seven, MaToK (Mezam Tanakhi Konservativi: Conservative Bible Project) is currently being used by more than forty Solomon Schechter Day Schools and community day schools in the United States and Canada. The curriculum is jointly sponsored by the Melton Research Center and by the Education Department of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

The curriculum seeks to implant within students a sense of kedushah (holiness), allow them to develop Bible-study skills, build on their sense of inquiry, and relate biblical narrative to their lives spiritually, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and morally.

The students develop skills that allow the access to independent study of Torah. They are encouraged to ask and respond to open-ended questions and to struggle with the dilemmas inherent in the Torah's narrative.

The new full-color student booklets are designed and produced by CET in Israel. The project is generously supported by a grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation. MaToK is directed by Dr. Deborah Miller, associate director of the Melton Research Center.
