A Discussion with Dr. Jonathan Klawans, Author, JTS, March 19, 2013, 7:30 PM

Dr. Jonathan Klawans, associate professor of Religion at Boston University, presented Josephus and the Theologies of Ancient Judaism on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m., at JTS. The book reexamines 1st-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus’s descriptions of ancient Jewish sectarian disputes over determinism and free will, the afterlife, and scriptural authority. It calls for a renewed focus on Josephus’s testimony, and models an approach to ancient Judaism that gives theological questions a deserved place alongside matters of legal concern. Dr. Klawans’s Library Book Talk was sponsored by The JTS Library.
