"A bild fun der noenter tsukunft" A popular news item of the day was a study which indicated that men were becoming more feminine and women more masculine. In response, Kundes cartoonist "Lola" (Leon Israel) imagines how a rabbi and rebbetzin might look if the study proved true. This cartoon was, at the time, an early critique of gender-role reversal. Notwithstanding the artist's critique, his cartoon provides a prescient vision not only of changes in gender roles generally, but more specifically, in the rabbinate. |
