AN ONLINE MINI-COURSE WITH JTS

Four Wednesdays
October 16, 23, 30; November 6, 2019
12:00-1:00 p.m. ET

With Dr. Benjamin Gampel, Dina and Eli Field family Chair in Jewish History, JTS

Join us as we trace the history of Jews and Judaism in the orbit of Islam from the birth of Muhammad up through the death of Maimonides. We will learn about the beginnings of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula and how the Muslims created an empire that stretched from southern France to the Indus river. In this emergent caliphate fully 90 percent of world Jewry lived under its rule, and the Jews thrived both economically and religiously. We will investigate how the Jews became world-class traders, and how rabbinic Judaism extended its hegemony over the Jewish people.

Cost: $80

Recordings will be available for those unable to attend live.

Registration required.
