Meaning from Maggid: Contemporary Scholarship, Contemporary Messages
How does the seder reflect the ideal of social equality? What is the place of the Land of Israel in Jewish history? What meaning can Ezekiel 16 hold for us today? In seeking to understand this collection of midrashim, we will survey the views of several contemporary scholars and discuss how to interpret the Maggid at our sedarim.
This webinar is presented by Rabbi Judith Hauptman.
Rabbi Judith Hauptman is the E. Billi Ivry Professor Emerita of Talmud and Rabbinic Culture at JTS. Her research focuses on tracing the history of the text of the Talmud and teasing women’s history out of rabbinic texts. Her volume Rereading the Rabbis: A Woman’s Voice has been called a founding work of the new Jewish feminism. In 2004, she started Ohel Ayalah, a free, walk-in High Holiday service for Jews in their 20s and 30s.
