Honoring a Legendary Scholar

Join JTS in Jerusalem on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, for a conference in honor of Dr. Shamma Friedman, Distinguished Service Professor and Benjamin and Minna Reeves Chair of Talmud and Rabbinics at JTS.

Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 10:30 a.m.–7:15 p.m

A member of the JTS faculty since 1964 and the founder of both the Saul Lieberman Institute of Talmudic Research and the Society for the Interpretation of the Talmud, Dr. Friedman has revolutionized Talmud study through his longstanding commitment to the development of a commentary on the Talmud that meets exacting academic standards and is attuned to a contemporary intellectual mindset.

On the occasion of Dr. Friedman’s 80th birthday, scholars from JTS, the Academy of the Hebrew Language, the Schechter Institute for Jewish Studies, and leading Israeli universities will speak on a range of Talmudic subjects.
