Conservative Judaism: Origins, History, Assets, and Opportunities

Part of ScholarStream, a partnership of the Conservative Movement

Tuesday, December 7, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET
Online

Conservative Judaism provided a compelling vision for a Judaism—traditional in orientation and embracing of evolutionary change—that captured the hearts and minds of so many 20th century American Jews. What were its origins? Why and how did JTS serve as its incubator and disseminator? And why am I convinced that Conservative Judaism is well poised to meet the religious needs of North American Jews in the current moment?

With Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz, Chancellor and Irving Lehrman Research Professor of American Jewish History, JTS

This session is the first in a series of three lectures on The Roots of Conservative Judaism: Understanding how Conservative Judaism developed helps us form our own theology and practice. As a movement guided by Torah and modern interpretation, we embrace diversity as we gather in holy community.

Individuals can sign up at a cost of $25 for the series, or for free with a code from a sponsoring congregation.

ABOUT SCHOLARSTREAM

From October through May this year, JTS is partnering with other Conservative Movement seminaries and institutions to offer eight lecture series featuring outstanding scholars and teachers from across the movement. Synagogues are invited to become ScholarStream co-sponsors so that their members may enjoy all of the lectures at no charge.
