December 5 Lecture

“Medieval Jewish Women: Just Wives and Mothers?,” with Dr. Stefanie Siegmund, Associate Professor of History and Director, Jewish Gender and Women’s Studies

What did medieval Jewish women actually do? In this lecture and workshop we will learn about the lives of medieval Jewry and how five women fit into that world: a teacher in Egypt, an owner of vineyards in France, a rabbi’s wife, a moneylender, a servant and a member of the silk guild in Florence! We will study three of these women by reading original textual sources in translation, accompanied by slides.

The JTS lecture will be preceded by a class with a local clergy member.

Cost

$36 per person for the six weeks of courses and lectures.
