Historical Note

Congregation Rodfei Sholom-Oir Chodosh of Chicago, Illinois was founded in 1957 as the product of the merging of congregations Rodfei Sholom and Oir Chodosh. At the time of this merger the congregation was led by Rabbi Arnold Goodman. At its peak, membership consisted of approximately 800 families. In 1970 the congregation was dissolved.

Collection Description

Half of this small collection consists of documents and the remaining half consists of photographs. The documents include financial records, membership and committee lists, and minutes. While many of these documents are not dated, they appear to come mostly from the 1960s. Of note among the documents are copies of the congregation's constitution.

With few exceptions, the photographs are of Hebrew school and confirmation class graduations. While many of the photographs are not dated, they probably are from the 1950s and 1960s.

Also included is a scrapbook of Rodfei Sholom's sisterhood. The scrapbook contains photographs, flyers, newspaper clippings, reports, programs, announcements, and other material documenting the activities of the sisterhood, 1953-1956.
