If you are considering a career in the rabbinate and are in the process of deepening your Jewish observance, we encourage you to learn more about The Rabbinical School of The Jewish Theological Seminary. We welcome inquiries from Jewish men and women, of all ages and at any stage of life, whose faith in God motivates identification with the principles of Conservative Judaism.
Students come to us with varying degrees of strength in biblical and talmudic text study. Our Mekhinah (preparatory year) and Tokhnit Yesod (pre-rabbinical) programs, including intensive Hebrew, help develop those skills. We encourage you, regardless of your current level of preparation, to visit and meet with us to discuss your interest in a rabbinical education.
Preliminary discussions with potential candidates, which are a required part of the application process, are held throughout the year with the admissions director. It is most helpful if these conversations take place at least six months to one year before applying to The Rabbinical School. We encourage you to contact us at (212) 678-8807 or rabschool@jtsa.edu to arrange your preliminary discussion.
To request an application or receive more information about The Rabbinical School, submit the web-based contact form or call us at (212) 678-8807. Applications are due on December 31 for the following fall; interviews with the Admissions Committee take place in February and March.
Applicants who wish to be interviewed in Israel should submit their applications to JTS by December 3. Interviews in Jerusalem take place in late December or early January.
