"And the Gates Opened: Women in the Rabbinate," a documentary celebrating the twentieth anniversary of women’s ordination as rabbis in the Conservative Movement, has won the New York Emmy® Award for Outstanding Religious Programming.

The film aired nationwide on the ABC Television network in January 2005, and has quickly become an important part of modern Jewish history. "Gates" was produced by The Jewish Theological Seminary in conjunction with Diva Communications.

Through interviews with the first women to be ordained in the Reform, Reconstructionist and Conservative Movements, "Gates" analyzes the impact they and others have made on Judaism today. It also looks at recent developments in women's religious leadership within the modern Orthodox community. Also featured are a newly–ordained second–career rabbi, two current rabbinical school students, and discussions about the current and future status of women in the rabbinate in regard to gender equity, professional satisfaction, and personal fulfillment. It concludes with an overview of the meaningful redefinition of gender roles, feminist reconceptualization of Conservative ideology and theology, and practical innovations in Jewish life that continue to reshape the contours of Conservative Judaism.
