About Admissions Campus Life Academics Library Administration Conservative Judaism
The Jewish Theological Seminary has provided for-credit courses to students around the world, via the Internet, since 1996. Online classes bridge time and space, allowing students to participate in class at any time of day, from anywhere in the world, as long as they follow the semester-long course schedule. A computer with an Internet connection is all that is needed to enter the learning environment. A course website provides access to all assignments, course materials, interactive exercises and discussions, exams, and multimedia resources. Students use email and an online bulletin board to interact with instructors and fellow students and to collaborate on group projects.
Online courses are offered to fulfill a variety of goals:
JTS's faculty and staff have taken great pains to ensure that the online learning experience meets the same rigorous standards as the courses offered on our New York campus. These courses follow a semester schedule and typically require four to six hours of work per week for thirteen to fourteen weeks. Students develop close learning relationships with colleagues around the world and receive personal attention from top JTS faculty. Participation and interaction are major components of every online class. Most required readings may be read online, while others may be purchased from online vendors.
