Remember to check back periodically for updates!

Dear Incoming List College students,

Welcome to List College! We are excited to meet you on August 28 and help you begin your transition into life at JTS, Columbia, and Barnard!

We encourage you and your family to read Transitions: A Guide for Families of First-Year List College Students. We hope you will find this important guide to be a helpful resource and that it will answer many of the questions that we know are on your minds. Additionally, we have included a list of mailings and emails you can expect this summer.

Please remember to mark your calendars for the first day of our mandatory orientation week, Sunday, August 28.

Below is a brief schedule so you know what to anticipate on the first day of orientation.

We wish you much success at the end of this school year and an enjoyable and meaningful summer. Please do not hesitate to contact us at (212) 678-8839 or studentlife@jtsa.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

L'Shalom,

Sara Horowitz, Dean of Student Life
Ruth Decalo, Director of Student Life and Community Outreach

Letter from your 2010 List College Orientation co-chairs, Micah Shilcrat and Laura Wasserman

Hellloooooooo Class of 2015!

We are super-excited about meeting you on August 28 and are working hard to plan the best and most memorable first week of college you will ever have! In addition to the fun of meeting your classmates, you will be introduced to the greatest city in the entire universe! With all the great people, sights, and events on campus (and throughout New York City) we hope you will feel right at home before you know it.

By orientation's end, you will have scheduled your classes for the coming semester at List College and Columbia University or Barnard College. Through appointments with advisers and deans, conversations with upperclassmen and faculty, and discussions with your new classmates at JTS and Columbia/Barnard, your transition into college life will be in full swing.

We know that while some of you may be ready to run out the door and move into your residence halls and hang out in the JTS quad, the Barnard quad, or on the Columbia steps, others may be more apprehensive about leaving the family dog/goldfish/house-elf; in either case, we promise you a fun, informational, and stimulating orientation, and plenty of time to meet with JTS staff and your new classmates, all of whom are here to support you.

Feel free to contact the JTS Office of Student Life with any questions about orientation, college, or life itself!

Prepare to be oriented!

Your Amazing Co-Chairs,

Micah and Laura

Letter from your 2011–2012 List College Student Council president, Hannah Goodman

Dear List College Class of 2015,

Hannah Goodman, LCSC PresidentWelcome to List College! I want to be one of the first people to welcome you to our program. My name is Hannah Goodman and I am your List College Student Council president. As the school year quickly approaches, I hope that you are getting excited about the beginning of your journey through college. During orientation week, there will be some wonderful organized activities sponsored by JTS, Columbia, and Barnard. And you won't want to forget to explore New York City and its wonderful attractions. Before you know it, the hustle and bustle of classes will begin.

List College orientation is integrated into the wider Columbia University New Student Orientation Program (also known as NSOP, one of the many acronyms you will soon become intimately acquainted with). This means that many of your orientation-evening programs will be spent with students from Columbia College (CC) and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), in addition to students from the School of General Studies (GS) and Barnard College (BC).

Indeed, this year's orientation staff has big plans ahead; your co-chairs, Micah and Laura, along with the Office of Student Life, have been working hard to ensure your first college experience is an overwhelmingly positive one.

The orientation co-chairs and staff are looking forward to helping you with the transition to college. They will be a valuable resource to you and you should always feel comfortable asking them questions. Over the summer, please don't hesitate to contact studentlife@jtsa.edu if you have questions about orientation. If you would like to know more about List College Student Council, please feel free to email me. I hope that the rest of your summer is wonderful and I look forward to seeing you in the fall.

L'Shalom,

Hannah Goodman, List College Student Council President
