Letter from the Office of Student Life regarding List College Orientation

Dear Incoming List College Students,

Welcome to List College! We are excited to meet you on August 25 and to help you begin your transition into life at JTS, Columbia University, and Barnard College.

We encourage you and your family to read Transitions: A Guide for Families of First-Year List College Students. We hope you will find this important guide to be a helpful resource and that it will answer many of the questions that we know are on your minds. Additionally, we have included a list of mailings and emails you can expect this summer.

Please remember to mark your calendars for the first day of our mandatory orientation week, Sunday, August 25.

In mid-June, we will update this site with a brief schedule so you know what to anticipate on the first day of orientation, which begins at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 25 with move-in to Barnard and JTS housing. Family programming will continue until 3:00 p.m., when students will have some time to say their farewells to loved ones before they continue with their weeklong orientation program.

To the wonderful, intelligent, and talented members of the class of 2017,

Congratulations, you've won...admission to an incredible program in the greatest city on earth! Click now to claim your prize!

Just kidding, the admissions office has already given it to you. But we, your (absolutely fabulous and dedicated) orientation co-chairs, are so very excited to welcome you to one of the best communities in New York City. You're now a member of one of the most prestigious undergraduate programs in the United States; a program that allows you to earn two degrees in the time an average college student earns one. That's right, you are not average; you are so much more than that.

Right now, while you read this, we are busy planning your first week of awesome activities and academic advising meetings, delicious delights, and fantastic festivities: aka, COLLEGE! Get excited, because if you can't tell, we already are, and we want our excitement to match yours on August 25th, your first day on campus! We know that after the New Student Orientation Program you'll be ready to start college with enthusiasm, energy, and momentum.

Your first week here is shaping up to be one of the busiest, yet fun and interactive weeks of your summer and we are so ready to show you New York through the perspective of a current List College undergrad.

Mandatory orientation programming will continue through Monday, September 2.
