Sharon Keller

Biography

Sharon Keller is assistant professor of Bible at The Jewish Theological Seminary, teaching biblical text courses as well as courses in biblical literature, the history of biblical Israel, and the literature and archaeology of the lands of the Bible.

Dr. Keller has presented scholarly papers on topics ranging from biblical literature to ancient Egyptian art, and has lectured on the Exodus, the afterlife, and women's studies. She has held teaching positions at New York University, Baruch College, Hunter College, and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's School Education program. She is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature Committee on Egyptology and Ancient Egypt and has served for many years as a judge for the National Jewish Book Award.

Dr. Keller has written and edited several academic books, most of which relate to the interplay between biblical Israel and ancient Egypt. Her most popular book, Jews: A Treasury of Art and Literature, published in 1992, was awarded the National Jewish Book Award in 1993.

Dr. Keller received her bachelor's degree and a master's degree from New York University's Hebrew Culture and Education program. She graduated from the Joint Program between The Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia University's School of Social Work, receiving master of arts and master of social work degrees. She received her doctorate in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University.
