JTS Response to Mumbai Attacks

The Board of Trustees, faculty, students, and staff of The Jewish Theological Seminary stand with the world in grieving for all the victims of the terrorist strike in Mumbai. We join the Jewish world, along with our Conservative Movement colleagues in Masorti Olami, the Rabbinical Assembly, and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, in sending condolences to those who were murdered at the Mumbai Chabad House: Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, the Chabad emissaries who perished in the service of God, Torah, and the Jewish people; Rabbi Bentzion Kruman; Yocheved Orpaz; Norma Shvarzblat Rabinovich; and Rabbi Leibish Teitelbaum.

As we followed the unfolding tragedy in India, we were jolted once more to awareness of all the wrong that needs righting in this world, the evils that must be combated, the suffering that cries out for solace. This tragedy gives occasion to remember that the pursuit of justice and compassion knows no national or religious boundaries. May the families of the victims find comfort in the dedication their loved ones showed to the Jewish people and the world.
